Rufus
I should have known this guy would be trouble from the moment I saw him.
There he was, held out by some sketchy dog selling dude, outside the central market of Trujillo. On one arm was my future pooch, on the other his brother. Both shivering. I wavered. Should I get a puppy? Which one? Meanwhile, Kevin stood by rolling his eyes. So, like a good Peruvian market shopper, I decided what I...
Into the Woods
Looking forward to Girl Camping in the woods of Wisconsin - fish fry, friendship bracelets, peanut butter, Yahtzee, swimming…and hopefully not too many bug bites.

Wearable Planter
I just ordered Wearable Planter No. 1 by Colleen Jordan. This amazing little design was created by a 3D acrylic printer. So. Cool. I plan to snip bits of our lavender and rosemary plants to add a delightful smell to the equation. I can’t wait to receive it!

Another CSA Meal
More goodies from the CSA. Kale sauteed with onions and garbanzo beans, topped off with a soft boiled, farm fresh egg. In addition to the eggs and kale, this week’s box also contained red leaf lettuce, radishes, rhubarb, and a 6 year aged cheddar.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
First CSA Meal
This week we got our first CSA box from Simply Wisconsin. Green garlic (a new favorite), spinach, radishes, rhubarb and eggs. And here’s our first meal! Spinach and green garlic quiche with a radish, cucumber and onion salad.
Can’t wait to see what comes next! Also, next week we get CHEESE! Yessssss.

Small, Cool
How much do I LOVE these finalists in Apartment Therapy’s Small Cool 2011 Contest?! Answer: LOTS!
I am somehow strangely envious of how amazing these places look, and yet how teeny tiny they are. Makes me wish I could live in a “small cool” home, but given the number of old ratty t-shirts I can’t bear to part with…that won’t be happening any time soon.

HOW did I miss this giveaway on A CUP OF JO!?
What I wouldn’t do to go back in time, enter the giveaway, and win an EmersonMade shopping spree and get the Yes Dress with LITTLE BICYCLES! So good.
And the “coming soon” Blue Shirt isn’t too shabby either.

High Speed Knitting
For a travel knitting project, I went with The Purl Bee’s Socks for Giving. Easy to pack and carry. I had to modify slightly for a) height; b) my feet which, though large, are not man sized; and c) the “giving” part. I plan to keep these babies when I finish.

Spain
Chris and I went on a trip to Spain. It was fabulous. We visited Barcelona, Sevilla and Tarragona. We ate, we walked, we drank…we ate and drank some more. It was fabulous. We just have to go back. Did I mention it was fabulous? Chris took some photos of the trip. Here are a few of my favorites:
Tarragona
Augustus Vineyards
Spanish Countryside at High Speed

Get Personalized!
Almost forgot that, in addition to the knits, I also added this engraved personalized necklace to the shop.
As you might have guessed, that’s “m” for melouca.
Back from Vacation
I’m back from vacationing in Spain! More on that later.
Now that I’m back, that also means that my Etsy shop is back from vacation, too!
Perhaps you missed it, but I added a few items. I’d like to say that the need for cozy knits is a thing of the past, with Spring right around the corner. But…alas, no.
So why not stay warm in a cute style like The Mega Muffler Crocheted...

Insert snow photo here
Nope. Not gonna do it. You all know what snow looks like and you can probably just look out your own window to see what I’m seeing.
I’m spending this snowy day curled up with hot drinks and a warm dog, knitting up some baby slippers.
How do you like to spend your snowy days?

Kafka, in color
I am really into these redesigned Kafka covers done by Peter Mendelsund at Knopf.
Existentialism just got a bit snazzier.

Be a Fan!
Eek! So you can now be a “fan” of Made by Melouca on that social network thing. You know, the Facebook.
Eek!
Holla at me.
Today I start my Working with Wax and Casting class at Lillstreet Art Center. I really, really want to make a little triangle ring and maybe a “diamond” ring in brass. Hopefully some time in the not so distant future I’ll be able to post photos of what I’ve made!
Oooooooh, I’m so excited!
Bizarre Love…Rectangle?
When I was a young thing, my heart belonged to two dudes: Luke Skywalker and Kermit the Frog. I was pretty sure I was going to marry one of those studs. I’d watch Return of the Jedi and swoon, thinking of my life out and about in a galaxy far, far away. Or pop in the Muppets Take Manhattan tape for the billionth time and sigh and think to myself what an...

Calendars
‘Tis the season for gift giving and getting new calendars. I kind of love the idea of a nice, beautifully printed calendar. I love this bird calendar by MOCIUN + CORWIN.
Also, I just purchased this lovely Midwest Produce Calendar by krankpress from the Renegade Craft Fair to give as a gift.
I kind of wish I bought one for myself. Maybe I just have community gardens and urban...

The Congregation
Tonight I’m going to see my friend Gina’s band, The Congregation, play at the Chicago Recording Company studio as a part of their Spotlight Sessions series. I’m anticipating a killer show. Why? ‘Cause The Congregation rocks. Gina’s got some outrageous pipes, the guitar shreds, the drumming is explosive, the bass thumps, the horns blare and the...

I heart beets
Been on a beet kick lately…
While watching a moment of Detroit 1-8-7 (yeah, don’t ask…or watch) I caught a flash of something shiny around a female character’s neck and thought “oooh, that looks like an interesting necklace!” only to realize that it was a detective badge.
Whooooops!

Banger* Eating Bangers at Bangers (& Lace)
**
Here I am, enjoying some Banger Breakfast Sliders at Bangers & Lace, a new craft beer and sausage joint in Wicker Park.
It was really good. Within those tasty mini buns some of my very favorite things: spinach, hollandaise sauce, cheese, and, of course, SAUSAGE (err, I mean, bangers)!!!!!! Also, the beer selection was out of this world and the menu had super helpful descriptions to help...
